In the mechanism, each component is connected to other components, and this connection does not all form a rigid system. There is a certain relative movement between the two components that are connected to each other. Any connection that directly contacts between components and can produce a certain form of relative movement is called a kinematic pair. Such as the connection between the shaft and the bearing in the printing machine; the connection between the gear teeth and the gear teeth; the connection between the slider and the guide groove, etc. are all kinematic pairs.

The contact between components is nothing more than three types of points, lines or surfaces. For example, the balls of a ball bearing and the inner and outer rings are in point contact, the meshing gear teeth are in line contact; the shaft and the bearing are in surface contact.

The types of sports pairs can be divided into low pair and high pair according to the contact form of the two components.

1. Low vice. The kinematic pair formed by surface contact between two components is called low pair. In the low pair, according to their relative motion is rotating or moving, it can be divided into turning pair and moving pair.

Swivel vice. If the two components that make up the kinematic pair can only rotate relative to each other in one plane, this type of kinematic pair is called a slewing pair, also known as a hinge.

Mobile vice. If the two components that make up a motion pair can only move relative to one another along a certain axis, this kind of motion pair is called a moving pair.

2. Senior vice. The kinematic pair composed of point or line contact between two components is called high pair, and the relative movement between them is rotation and movement.

High pair and low pair have different characteristics in use due to their different contact parts. The remarkable feature of the high pair is that it can transmit more complex motions, but it is a point or line contact. The force per unit area at the contact point is large, and the components are easy to wear. The low pair is surface contact, where the force per unit area is relatively large. Smaller, larger load capacity than the high pair, convenient for maintenance and manufacturing, but the low pair cannot transmit more complicated transportation contracts, the friction loss is larger than that of the high pair, and the efficiency is also low.
